I’ve Scheduled My First-Ever Online Public “Drafting Clearer Contracts” Presentations

On 27 and 28 June 2023 and on 12 and 13 September 2023, I’ll be doing my first-ever online public Drafting Clearer Contracts presentations. I’ve expanded my training site to reflect that—go here for more information.

These presentations are more accessible than, and offer better value than, presentations I’ve done previously. Allow me to explain.

Since 2006, I’ve done hundreds of Drafting Clearer Contracts presentations attended by thousands of people. But consider what has been involved in attending my previous presentations.

Many of them were public in-person presentations, which I’ve done in big cities around the U.S. and Canada and in major cities internationally. To attend such a presentation, you had to be willing to spend an entire day away from work. You might have had to travel, which would require an extra day or two of your time. For most of those presentations, I had a corporate partner—because we had to share the proceeds, we had to charge more. And most of them were held at a hotel—because we had to cover those expenses, we had to charge more.

The remaining presentations were private presentations for companies, law firms, and government agencies. I expect to continue to do private presentations. But you get to attend a private presentation only if you’re at an organization that’s willing to pay my fee and buy copies of A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting.

By comparison, for the new presentations, I’m charging $495 per person—just under two-thirds of the effective price of my in-person presentations. (I’m charging $395 for organizations that register ten or more people.) I offer a $100 discount to students, contract managers, and those who work in government, at not-for-profits, or at law firms with up to three lawyers. And attending one of the new presentations requires just over six hours of your time, in two installments, wherever you’re located.

So the new presentations should be accessible to way more people than my previous presentations. And they’re a better bargain. I don’t see a downside: I think the benefits offered by in-person presentations are marginal when you have a group of strangers as opposed to a cohesive group from a single organization.

So I hope to see you at Drafting Clearer Contracts: Presentation!
