Go here for the last teaser for the fourth edition of A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, the index.
You can tell a lot about a reference work from its index. You can’t make a good index from a mediocre reference work. But you can make a mediocre index from a good reference work. I’m happy with the fourth edition, and I spent a week on the index to make sure that it does justice to the fourth edition. (I wouldn’t dream of handing that task to some minion. Even if I had minions. Which I don’t.)
At 22 pages, the index is significantly longer than the index to the third edition—no surprise, given that the book has just under 100 pages of new material (and eliminates around 20 pages of less-than-compelling material). But it’s also more detailed. It’s badass, if I say so myself. It will give you a good sense of what’s in the fourth edition.
