“SmallLaw” Discount, Payment Plan, and Other “Masterclass” News

It’s an interesting business, having a storefront for my course Drafting Clearer Contracts: Masterclass. If you go to the home page, you’ll see that I’ve added some stuff.

Value Proposition

I’ve added this paragraph to explain the value of the course:

Why take Masterclass? Because traditional contract language is dysfunctional. It’s full of archaisms, redundancies, random verb structures, and ill-conceived conventional wisdom, so drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts wastes time and money. Traditional contract language also creates confusion that wastes yet more time and money, particularly as it routinely leads to disputes. (For more on the dysfunction, see the introduction to Ken’s book A Manual of Style for Contract Draftinghere.)

SmallLaw Discount

If you’re a lawyer at a firm with up to three lawyers, using the discount code “SmallLaw” will reduce the price by $150. If you’re based in the United States, you get CLE credit at no cost. Your only other cost would be buying a copy of A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting. After you purchase the course, you’re sent an email containing, among other things, a code entitling you to a 30% discount when you buy a copy of the print or ebook version of MSCD from the American Bar Association. With the discount, the purchase price is $83.97.

Payment Plan

For what I hope is a nominal additional charge of $20, you can elect to make three monthly payments instead of a one-time payment.

FAQ on Cost

I realized that potential participants shouldn’t have to click on “Register Now” to find out how much the course costs. So I added this FAQ:

How much does Masterclass cost?

It costs $895 to participate in Masterclass, but you can elect to pay in three monthly installments for a total of $915. (Select from the drop-down menu which option you prefer.) If you’re a lawyer at a law firm with up to three lawyers, use the discount code “SmallLaw” at checkout to receive a discount of $150. From time to time we will offer other discounts for series of Masterclass intended for law students or for participants from a particular region or country.

Sign Up for News

Because I’ll be adding series of the course and adding other discounts, it makes sense give people the option to sign up for occasional news emails. So I added that to the course home page.

Tweaking the Course

Meanwhile, I’m making further adjustments to Masterclass to reflect my experience with the trial version of the course and comments from the brave band of participants.

So there you have it! If you have any suggestions for other changes, please let me know.
